Well the day has passed, but the candy hasn't all been eaten, so I think it's still safe to post a few Halloween pictures before we all move on to turkey prep and Christmas crafts.
This year Jude knew what he wanted to be in July and never wavered. We started reading the Harry Potter series together and we were both bitten by the Hogwarts bug. So I had plenty of advanced warning that a Harry Potter costume was in order, but that didn't stop me from pulling it off the sewing machine October 29th. Last minute or not, it turned out great! I followed the cloak tutorial by The Sewing Rabbit to grand success. The only change I made was to tack down the point of the hood to make it more Hogwarts and less KKK. The Gryffindor crest was an online image that I printed onto iron on fabric (this stuff is really cool). We borrowed the tie, glasses, and wand from a very nice friend. Jude did a great job staying in character and really had a good time playing everyone's favorite kid wizard.
Ronan had several ideas about what he would like to be (he is two after all) but at some point he settled on a ghost and I ran with it. The full tutorial for this super simple costume can be found on the DIY network. I must admit that applying a full face of make up to a toddler is a tricky business, but he loved it once I was done. Now, he wanted to be spooky, but I swear I didn't set out to make him quite this scary. He haunted the night quite effectively and had a blast saying "OOOOOooooOOoo!"
Halloween night brought with it a pretty serious storm so we had two very damp trick or treaters, but they got plenty of candy and I had fun showing my handiwork to all the neighbors. I love seeing all the kids dressed up! I hope everyone had a great Halloween!
