As I mentioned before, this year we put in a good sized vegetable garden at my grandma's ranch. I have never planted a large scale garden, especially one that I didn't tend daily. So I've decided to call it the great garden adventure and this year was all about jumping in with both feet and experimenting. So far, it has been a lot of work, but also a lot of reward.
With help from my family, we roto-tilled five good sized beds and added lots and lots of compost. We planted summer squash (too much!), peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, watermelon, one pumpkin (that has run totally wild), and around 25 heirloom tomato plants (hopefully I'll be canning like crazy). Jason ran drip irrigation on a timer, which means I only need to tend the garden once a week or so. I've learned a lot and plan to share any and all tips at the end of the season. For now, I am anxiously awaiting harvest and already making plans for next year!
