As a kid I loved taking family road trips. Or perhaps my memory is more than a little clouded with nostalgia. There were definitely plenty of are-we-there-yet's and mom-she's-on-my-side's and don't-make-me-pull-over's. But there were also a lot of laughs and the makings of good stories and a heavy dose of creative play.
The thing about family road trips is that they build character. There is something about spending hours in a confined space that helps define a family. Frustrations surface, personalities clash, patience wears thin but with no where to go, things get worked out. Z's are searched for with zeal, punchiness fuels side-splitting giggles, and memories are made.
So I've decided that while family road trips aren't always a blast (let's be honest they lack the free wheeling vibe of piling in a car with your best friends as a young adult). They are an important opportunity for this little family to create the kind of stories that get told over and over again.
In the hopes that our trip is less National Lampoon's and more Chitty Chitty Bang Bang I've compiled a little family road trip round up.

To Pack
I've got a new road trip craft planned and a few new apps downloaded, but I won't share those until they are road tested. Four states, five days, wish us luck!
Note: We are actually back and we survived! This was supposed to publish while we were gone but there was a bit of a glitch. Anyway, I've decided this week will officially be road trip week. Check back tomorrow for some pics and Thursday I'll share that craft (it ruled!) and few favorite new apps. Now I'm off to tackle laundry mountain!
Do you have any road trip plans this summer?
