My cousin is expecting her first baby, and I couldn't resist making her a little something to celebrate. This will be only the second baby in the family, Jude being the first, so we are all very excited. I am waiting until she finds out the gender before I go totally craft-crazy, but these simple, tiny booties seemed like a fitting congrats gift.
Update: Here is a free pattern for a slightly larger size and button hole options!
I used this fabulous free pattern. Like many Ravelers before me, I made a few changes: I knit them backwards (cast on 26, knit 10 rows, bind off 10 stitches, finish row, bind off 10 stitches, knit 6 for 21 rows), and I sewed them inside-out (so that the seams would be hidden and the shape more rounded).
Update: I used worsted weight yarn and US size 8 needles.
If you are looking for a super quick and easy project, look no further. They literally took me about thirty minutes total. The newborn size makes them so precious and fun to gift!
Here's to bitty babies in handknits!
