KCWC has begun, and so far I've managed this very cute pair of undies. I used the Itty Bitty Boxer Brief pattern and tutorial by Sew a Straight Line. I couldn't get her updated pattern to download, so I used the original. The only change I made was to make the front piece skinnier. Oh, and I'm lazy, so instead of topstiching everything, I ran a "decorative" zigzag over all my seams. These little babies are a big hit. The tutorial is awesome, and it's a great way to reuse old t-shirts.
I find store-bought boys' underwear to be ill-fitting and over-priced. I will definitely be making lots more...hopefully this week! Before I had Jude, I'm pretty sure I would have thought that going to the trouble of sewing my child's underwear was pretty crazy. However, the better I get at sewing, the less willing I am to spend money on things I can make myself. Not only do they cost less and fit better, I have fun making them.
What do you think? Sewing your kids underwear: radical or ridiculous?
