When I was asked to review Disney's new movie Secret of the Wings, I jumped at the chance because the theme was celebrating sisterhood.
As the eldest of three girls, I know a thing or two about sisterhood. Being a sister has always been one of my favorite roles. When I was four, my mom was pregnant with her second child. The sex of the baby was going to be a surprise, but whenever anyone asked my mother if she knew what she was having, I would reply, "It's a sister!" My mom was actually afraid I would reject a baby brother, but luckily I was right! I still remember the pride and pure love I felt when I held Mia for the first time; she was the sister I had dreamt of. Honestly, Mia and I could not be any more different, and we argued a lot when we were young, but we also played and schemed and loved each other very much. Our childhoods were peppered with some less than pleasant moments; moments that I handled with much more bravery and strength because I was not alone, I had a little sister to care for.
And then something magical happened. Mother got us out of a bad situation, married Prince Charming, and had another sister! I am eleven years older than Devin and nothing prepared me for motherhood more than helping with her. Diapers, feedings, help with homework; I loved every bit of it. Devin brought me so much joy. It was very hard to leave her when I went off to college, but I now I get to watch her succeed at university.
Sisters share a special bond, we know each other in a way that no one else can. You can show your ugliest side to your sister and know they will love you anyway. For all our squabbles, we would defend each other to the ends of the earth. Being a big sister made me who I am today, and there are no two young women I could be more proud of. I wouldn't trade sisterhood for the world.
Disney's Secret of the Wings is an adorable movie about the powerful bond of sisterhood. Full of funny and fashionable fairies, it is a real treat to watch. In true Disney style, the movie is beautifully animated and produced. Jude loves Tinker Bell (he calls her "Fairy Bell"), so he got a pretty big kick out of it. He especially liked the Keeper and Lord Milori. My favorite part was watching Tinker Bell design and sew her own winter coat and boots. Through nature and whimsy, Disney's Secret of the Wings reminds us of the magic of sisters. Be sure to visit the Secret of the Wings website for all the fairy goodness.
