Happy Summer Solstice! Isn't there something magic about the longest day of the year? Maybe it's just my delight at the start of my favorite season. Whatever it is, I hope to make this day special for my little family. I've been thinking a lot about the joy that traditions bring to a family. Of course, we are part of a much larger extended family that has many wonderful, long standing traditions (and our own little family has added quite a few to the mix). However, I've been craving a little tradition to call my own: something small, intimate, unique. Summer solstice feels like the perfect excuse.
Here's my plan: to spend as much time as possible outside (between loads of laundry I can no longer ignore), soaking up all that light; dine al fresco; and salute the late setting sun with a "bonfire" in our fire pit. As Jude grows, I hope he'll add his own ideas. And with any luck, the longest day of the year will become a day our family looks forward to as a special celebration of our love for each other, and the beautiful world we inhabit. (Okay, that might be a bit lofty, but you get the idea.)
Do you have any summer solstice traditions? Have you ever created a new tradition for your family?
P.S. - Today is also my parent's 20th wedding anniversary. Their wedding was one of the best days of my life. I love you Mom & Dad ... Here's to many, many more!
