Our summer solstice was a big hit. I got some great pictures and I thought it would be a good excuse for a Jude update. Since Jude is a Christmas baby, these long summer days serve as a reminder that he is half way to three!

As many 2 1/2 year olds do, he vacillates between hilarious-and-sweet and challenging-and-defiant. Sometimes I think he's just working on his campaign to be an only child. Other times, he's so grown up and independent, I start to think I need another baby.

It is so much fun to watch his personality emerge before our eyes: he is witty, strong-willed, caring, creative, strict, and adventurous. He is obsessed with all things Firefighter. He spends most of his free time firefighting, or as he calls it, "fighting fighting."

His other love is the water. He spent the entire parent/child swim lessons trying to dive to the bottom. And he actually swam a few times! Lately, he has also spent less time drawing and more time puzzling. I made the mistake of getting him a new 12 piece puzzle
which he proceeded to put together in no time at all. He then tucked it under his arm and said " I just need to take this back to the toy store and get that bath baby
." (Luckily, I had picked up a more challenging puzzle at the thrift store for 80 cents.)

The stuff he says is just too much. Anytime he is doing something questionable, he declares, "Don't worry! I'm just doing nothing!"

And he's got his powers of persuasion honed to Don Draper status:
"Mom, can you find my fire hat?"
"I think it's in your room, you can go get it. Mommy is sitting down for a minute."
"No, mom, you want to get it for me, it will make you happy."

I'll tell you what makes me happy: being this little one's mama.
