While the shorts were my crowning achievement in this week of sewing, I was able to finish two more items. The first is a nautical tank top inspired by the Oliver and S Sailboat Top.
I drafted my own pattern and I'm happy with the results. The fabric came from a dress off the sale rack at Old Navy (it was extra large so expect to see more of these stripes in the future). I used strips of white t-shirt to create the faux piping and the buttons are vintage from my great-grandmother's stash. I only bothered with button holes on one side (thanks, Sascha).
When you ask Jude to model he gets very serious and wiggles his hips ever so slightly, but very fast. It's pretty awesome, I think he's ready for the runway.
The last thing I made was a pair of terry cloth shorts based on this tutorial from Me Sew Crazy. The only thing I changed was that I closed up the legs so they aren't full on dolphin shorts. They aren't perfect, but they are very retro and they showcase glorious toddler thigh. I thought I'd better make him a pair of short shorts before it's too late.
They are soft and cozy and perfect for playing in the garden.
And running at top speed in your hard hat.
All in all this was another successful KCWC. I'd like to thank Meg of elsie marley for hosting such an inspiring event. The things that people have made this time around are down right amazing.
Here's to a well deserved break from the sewing machine!
