Hooray! I can scratch one thing off my 30 Before Thirty! Jason made me a pallet daybed (I helped, I swear). After seeing this one on Prudent Baby I knew I had to have one of my own. We followed the instructions, with three small changes. We sealed it with low-voc wood sealer, we used 3" wheels because they are cheaper, and we used galvanized pipe because black steel can rust.
My parents gave us a free twin mattress, score! I had grand plans of sewing a mattress cover and pillows and bolsters with chic outdoor fabric. But when the bed was built I really wanted to use it right away (and American Express didn't offer me any points to buy cool stuff from West Elm). So, I busted out my old college sheets and gathered up extra pillows from throughout the house. (I did buy one of those waterproof mattress protectors, and we cover the whole thing with a tarp at night.) I absolutely love it! Now we have an outdoor living room.
My new favorite project: quick (thanks to a handy husband), almost free (thanks to my parents), and funky (thanks to my laziness) DIY outdoor daybed (thanks to Prudent Baby). Did I mention I love it!?! Every free minute I have is now spent lounging. Bad news for the to-do list, but I'm too busy relaxing to care.
Here's to outdoor lounging, it doesn't count as lazy if you're getting fresh air.
