Check out this cute tunic I whipped up (AKA worked on in little bits over several weeks):
It is basically a v-necked sack dress cinched at the waist with a cute belt. It was so easy to make, and such a great way to put cute clearance fabric to good use, I thought I'd share how I did it. Click through for my simple tunic tutorial.
Simple Tunic Tutorial
What you need:
2 yards of cute fabric
Basic sewing supplies
1. Fold fabric in half, selvages aligned, and cut to around 26" wide (more or less based on your size), you want it to slip on easily and gather when cinched.
2. Fold fabric in half again, lengthwise, and using a shirt you like the cut of as a guide, cut your neckline. I did a deep V, but a boat neck would be really cute too.
3. Unfold and surge or hem all the way up both sides.
4. Put it on over your head (like a poncho) with the right side of the fabric facing towards you and pin where you would like the arm hole to be. Sew (following your hemmed stitch) from that point to the bottom on both sides.
5. Hem the neckline. For the v-neck, I notched the shoulders and the V points so that I could roll the fabric under.
6. Lastly, try it on with a belt, decide what length you like, and hem the bottom.
Happy Sewing!
And have fun wearing your new creation, I know I did, so much so that I had to bust out my booty dance:
